Staff Training
Forming a unified camp culture and building relationships among staff and campers are opportunities that we try to create for staff, while providing them with the tools and background they need to succeed at camp. Our pre-summer training program allows many opportunities for hired staff to interact with other Oasis staff members in their field, to experience the Oasis philosophy and ideology with the entire Oasis community, and also to bond with the staff from their own site - all of which happens before camp has even started!

Description of Staff Trainings
- Pre-summer Trainings by Position will be held in the months of May and June for all Leadership and Instructor staff. Trainings are mandatory for all staff, as experienced Oasis staff will provide manuals, and review any and all requirements of each position. Training dates are posted online on the Oasis Calendar. Hired staff will also be sent training information through an electronic contract.
- Summer Launch is a one-day staff orientation that marks the commencement of the camp season, bringing together staff from many Oasis camps to welcome everyone to the organization, introduce new staff to familiar Oasis faces, and learn the Oasis camp rituals. At the Summer Launch, each summer employee will complete their pre-summer paperwork and meet the other staff members from their camp site.
- A three-day On-Site Staff Orientation prior to the first day of camp will provide training in child development, group leadership, and leading group games, among other camp-related topics. By the end of Orientation, all of the staff will have a good understanding of our educational program and our expectations. Training will be held during the weeks prior to that start of camp and may include weekday, evening, and/or weekend hours.
- Staff meetings are held regularly in small and large groups to discuss issues and areas of concern. They will be scheduled by the Site Director and immediate supervisors as deemed necessary. Oasis has an open-door policy in all of our programs that encourages staff to approach the directors with any issues that arise.
