Weekly Note From the Camp Director

Hi-Dee-Hi Oasis Families,

As you can see on the website and as you have been finding out via email and with the Parent Handbook, we are getting close to the beginning of what is going to be an epic summer.  I wanted to take a minute and give you a couple of exciting updates to our programming.  Oasis in Union is incredibly unique and diverse.  We pride ourselves on offering activities, enrichment opportunities and special events that are one of a kind.  Here are a couple of things we will be doing this summer along with some information for you to check out.

  • Wednesday’s at Oasis in Union means that all of our campers will be participating in the Liberty Hall Museum Program and Activity.  On every Wednesday, one of Liberty Hall’s amazing curators will be leading a tour and providing a fun activity to our campers geared to teaching them a little about American History, Colonial America and the Kean story.  As you may know, Liberty Hall runs multiple events and hosts schools for field trips throughout the year and have developed their program to fit the interests of young people.  Please feel free to check out their website to see what it is they do and many other programs and events offered throughout the year.

  • We are also excited to announce that we have formed a partnership with Groundwork Elizabeth – Come Grow With Us Program. This international urban farming program is one that will provide activities that will allow our campers to take part in farming and environmental awareness.  Groundwork Elizabeth has been at Kean University since 2014 and are proud of their growing partnership - Come Grow With Us! was selected to be the farm steward of historic Liberty Hall Farm, located in the Liberty Hall complex at Kean University.

  • In our first season CGWU harvested over 3,000 pounds of food! Produce from Liberty Hall Farm is used in the University’s farm-to-table restaurant Ursino, sold at the Liberty Hall Farmers Market and donated to local food pantries.

  • We are in the process of developing the “Bring the Field Trip to Me” program for this year’s camp so throughout the summer, many fun and exciting programs will be offered on campus.  Some of the activities in the works are:

  • Magic Show
  • Musical Performances
  • Zumba
  • Martial Arts

   And many more to come!!!

Stay informed on all of the latest information by checking out the oasis website, facebook and twitter.

See you all soon!!!
