Week 6 Schedules and Events!

Hi-Dee-Hi Oasis families!

Here we are: it's Week 6 of camp!

First, I'd like to again thank all of the family members and friends that came out to support our incredibly talented campers at the Camper Talent Show on Thursday. All our performers worked extremely hard practicing their talents (and in some cases braving slight stage fright) to perform last week and the support that their friends and families was just one reason why the event was an amazing success! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! If you haven't already, I invite you to take a look at the Talent Show Album we've set up on our Flickr account (use the "See pictures of what's happening at camp" link on our main home page to access it!) which includes many pictures and videos of campers' performances. More will be added throughout the coming days, so check back frequently! If you're not able to access the Flickr site or have forgotten the password, make sure to get in contact with us and we'll get you set up!

Secondly, in order to properly accomodate our ever-expanding groups of campers, we have adjusted our swimming and pool schedule. Each of our four groups now has the opportunity to swim individually on a daily basis, which will allow us to continue to ensure that all campers are safe and having fun while in the pool and continuing to get the one-on-one attention that they need while there. Please see below for the adjusted pool times. As this change has been made to our normal schedule, additional activity periods will be adjusted also but all groups will continue to attend the same activities and with the same frequency that they did before. Please don't hesitate to ask Jim or myself if you have any questions or concerns about these changes.

Third, as Jim mentioned in a prior blog post, this week is a very important and special one for all Oasis camps: it's our annual Oasis Gives Back initiative, benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation's Team Fox charity. I'm sure you have already seen some information about this, but look for another blog post about our Penny Wars fundraising activity that will be in place this week!

As always, a couple quick notes:

  • Water and snack break times (as well as a time to do a sunscreen check) are built into all periods, so anytime campers need to re-hydrate or get a snack they'll be able to! Snacks will be provided but campers are encouraged to bring their favorite snacks from home!
  • Wednesdays are our Crazy Dress-Up Days! Information will be sent home with parents on a weekly basis but on this Wednesday, August 5th, we'll be celebrating Twin Day! Campers will be enccouraged to find a buddy (or group of buddies, staff included!) that they'd like to dress the same as or mimic for the day. I'd love to see how creatve our campers will be this week!
  • On Wednesdays, campers also pay a visit to the Liberty Hall Museum! Last week, our camper learned about the secret language behind handheld fans of the Victorian Era and were able to make their own bookmark nametag. More exciting events await our campers at Liberty Hall Museum this week!
  • Thursdays have a special period for Choice, a camp-wide event that allows campers in all groups to participate with each other in tons of exciting activities that are normally not on our schedule! Choices such as dance and yoga have been a big hit in past weeks and we're looking forward to some awesome choices for this week, too!
  • Fridays are our Special Event Days and every week is different based on our weekly theme! Last week's event took place on Thursday, which was our Camper Talent Show and it was a huge success! Our Staff Talent Show took place on Friday and it was also a blast (check out our Flickr account for some pictures and videos of both shows)! This week is Olympics Week, and our groups will be able to choose a country to embody and compete for the gold! Campers will be able to learn about their country, re-create their flag and even learn the country's national anthem! More info will be sent home with campers as the week progresses!
  • Fridays are also the day our campers visit the farm which is located right at Liberty Hall! The Groundwork Elizabeth's Come Grow With Us Program has invited us to tour their farm and participate in some enriching farming activities! Last week, campers learned about weeds and saw firsthand how the unwated growth of plants can complicate the farming process. More fun awaits at the farm this Friday!

As mentioned above, since swim times have been adjusted for all of our groups, our daily schedules will also have to be modified. See below for the most up-to-date schedules and check back as we continue to finalize schedules for the rest of the week.
