Why should I consider becoming a lifeguard with Oasis?

Daily Responsibilities:

  • As an Oasis lifeguard, you will be responsible for creating a safe, swimming environment for all Oasis Campers.
  • You will be required to be in the water every day teaching children of all ages swimming techniques and how to have fun and be safe in the water.
  • You will be required to participate in all camp activities and provide additional support for Instructor/Group Leader staff when not at the pool.

How to Become an Oasis Lifeguard:

  • Submit an online application and check off Lifeguard/Swim Instructor. Indicate the certifications you currently possess and the expiration dates.
  • After being hired, send us a copy of your expiring/recently expired certifications and register for a Lifeguarding recertification course with Oasis. Applicants should be willing to attend lifeguard certification courses held in New York, NY.
  • NOTE: To become an Oasis Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, all applicants must pass all the physical and written requirements of American Red Cross Lifeguarding.

Oasis American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification Dates

(for Lifeguard recertifications)

Course Requirements:

CLASS STARTS EXACTLY ON TIME. Attendance is MANDATORY. Participants are required to bring a bathing suit, towel, goggles, and snacks (if needed). There will be limited time for breaks.

To be eligible for the Lifeguarding recertification, you must successfully complete the following on the first day of the course.

  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute and 40 seconds
  • Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order

(there is no time requirement for this):

  • 100 yards of front crawl.
  • 100 yards of breaststroke
  • 100 yards or either front crawl or breaststroke (or any combination)
